Montuwed @ Kota Tinggi (18-20 Sept 2006)
First camp with all (almost all) the fellow GLs.
A wonderful experience! ^_^
Assigned to group Hydra.
It was kind of awkard in the beginning as we do not know each other well...
But I know after going through the camp, it'll be a total dfferent thing.
As that is always the case, with very few exceptions.
The campsite is a lovely place.
Surrounded by nature with mountains as the backgrounds.
Accessible by walking across a long swinging bridge leading from the resort area.
Sleeping area are marked by raised cement platform.
We just had to 'hang' up the tent sheets.
Had various activities at the camp site.
Out of which the more exciting ones were the Rafting competition and Indiana Jones, challenging with Aero.
Rafting competition, we were given 4 tyres, 3 long and 2 short pipes and as many ropes as the number of people we have in the group. The game is such that we had to build a raft using the given materials and raft across the lagoon within the campsite. 5 members are to be on board to and fro. Lagging at the beginning for building the raft, but we worked catiously and as fast as we could. Finally we emerged first! PS: Scraped my butt going down the lagoon to board the raft. =P
Indiana Jones, it is hard to discribe how it's played. It involves some platforms floating in a pond which are chained up at the sides leaving large gaps in between. Members from the opposite teams are to cross it using 2 planks. Those who fall into the pond are to return to the starting point. That's the best I can do! We had lots of fun trying our verybest to hang onto our platform as the opposing team were trying to shake us off. But unfortunately they shake themselves off instead! >_< This game often make us grabbing and hugging onto our team-mates to prevent ourselves from falling off. But at this point of time, our group is already well bonded and we didn't bother much, especially when we were made to have so much body contacts already, hold hands etc...
Day 1 came and passed by quickly...
Mount Panti awaited us on Day 2!!
Trekking up Mount Panti
It was a FANTISTIC, MARVELOUS experience.
It wasn't easy, especially with a load of about 5kg in your bagpack.
Up and down the slopes, ditches, over and under the logs....
Seeing super-sized ants, leeches, giant millipides...
Getting bitten by leeches... personally I had 3 of them.
Helping each other along the way such as by pushing, a hand for support.
Seriously I must say the guys in my group are helpful, as they often offer their help.
The most challenging part of the trek was the rock face, especially coming down.
It was also what I love most about the entire expedition.
We even had the time to joke on our way down the rock face.
I suppose we had an entertaining time down due to our very cute SGL.
She's just so cute!! Shall not mention name...
Joking and laughing till we were warned that a wild-bore (the noise it made was low and sounded like someone talking over the walkie) was nearby.
It was then that only our footsteps and ruffling of the fallen leaves could be heard.
It crossed my mind that nature is such a wonderful thing upon seeing how the roots were arranged along the treks, they stretched and formed route similar to a pathway with steps as if it was welcoming anyone into the forest!
Our group did a lame skit for campfire.
A storyline as follows - A sultan abandoned by his magic carpet, stranded in the dessert as he couldn't ride onto the camel that he saw. As he was getting exhausted, he saw an oasis where he met a mermaid. Fell in love. He made a trip back to his palace, when a tsunami striked and took mermaid along with it. He was broken-hearted and decided to jump into the ocean. It was then he was woken up by his tent-mate as he was outside his tentage, with a yellow poncho on his head.
In between there were a few songs added here and there to dramatise the entire skit. Lame but we had our fun. Had feedbacks that it was entertaining. =)
I like the version of Linger by our facilitator. Very modern and stylish.
Had Disco at the end of the campfire...
Big Sweep on the last day...
Once again cleared toilets.
Picked something out of the toilet bowl and helped clean half of a chocked and dirty toilet bowl as well.
Soon it was time to make our way back...
I wish for the friendship and bonds formed to last...
